Sad

And you’re fine now?  You’re not sad anymore?

I think often we think of happy as something that lies on top of sad, but I think sad is something that lies on top of happy.  And anger is on top of sad.  It’s like rock paper scissors.

They’re not all on top of each other at the same time.  They don’t all have the power to overtake each other.  But anger is on top of sad and happy is below sad.  It’s more profound.  There’s more profundity at the base.  Happy isn’t on top of sad, waiting to be scrubbed away like a frail mask.  It’s below sad, waiting for you to find your way back to it.

I was always happy, but for a while, it was difficult to see beyond the sad.  Beyond the anger.  But the sad has lifted, and with it went anger, and I’m only left with my truer nature.

Yeah, I'm fine now.
