Poncho [or Capelet]

Poncho [or Capelet]

A capelet [or poncho].

[I'm inclined to believe "poncho" is actually a very specific item and not just anything can be called a poncho, but I'm not sure. I somehow feel the term is overused.]

So far,

Chain 8.

I'm changing the neck, or have changed the neck. Learning from a Thing, the neck needs to be shorter at the front. I want an ideal height of a turtleneck reaching just below my chin, that should be about 7 stitches, but we're working with 8. The back of the neck is 10 stitches. Aim for the decrease to be along the edge, but on the back side (although crocheting, I think of a front side to my work and a back side to my work, the "edge" is where a seam would be or where the edge of the back side would be if sewing fabric). We're aiming for a multiple of 8 at the end, ie. we need to work our neck into 72 rows, 80 rows, etc. Since 76 was used last time, I'm working with a larger hook, this stitch is ribbed and elastic, etc. 80 is probably too large. I'm aiming for 72. I've marked ┅ where edges or middles are.

Wool-ease. 6.0 mm.

Chain 10 + 1 turning.
Sl st blo 16 rows (use back bump for first row) [10 st].
Sl st blo, sl st blo dec over last two [9 st].
Sl st blo across.

Seam.

[For the seam, don't flip inside out. Fold work backwards and work through both loops of last row and front loop of founding chain. This will give "invisible" seaming with the "knit" stitches facing upward.]

Alright, the yoke took some time, but should be smooth from now. A few things on details.

  • When you single crochet around the edge, back facing out.
  • Chain 3 and turn. Make 3 dc in one — usual practice is dc as usual with ch space and begin granny the next round — start now.
  • Increase first round — 80 stitches.

Chain 3 and turn.
Make 3 dc in one, *sk 3 ch 1, 3 dc* until 37th stitch, {ch 1, 3 dc} in 37th (inc), *sk 3 ch 1, 3 dc* until 69th stitch, {sk 2 ch 1, 3 dc} in last stitch (inc), sc to join.

I've worked 3 rounds of granny at which point I was considering switching to solid, but I don't think I can go further with this. I usually size down in hook size and didn't this time, but I don't find this gauge tolerable. I would pretend to find it tolerable and then never actually wear this item or I would wear and be constantly adjusting it as I did, so I'm unravelling. [:25:58.]. I will say the height of the neck is perfect, so in sizing down, I'll keep that the same. [:27:16.]

[:36:57.] Try: 9--12 for neck.
