A Sleeveless Boatneck Blouse

A Sleeveless Boatneck Blouse

Ciao ciao ciao.

It's something about navy blue. Upon finishing my navy singlet yesterday, I immediately went okay, bring it on back in reference to navy blue. I'm not quite ready to have navy blue not sitting in my hands just yet.

We're beginning with Patons.

That's all I know so far. I was thinking on this in my sleep, imagining its creation, trying decide between a bottom-up or top-down construction; the memory is quite clear and what I also got from my memory of this time is that I haven't the slightest idea what I would like to do. So we'll sit with it and see what happens.

Okay, we're back and we've made a decision. I realised I was uncertain of the construction because one of them felt slightly less intuitive and as if it would require a bit more work and joining of the yarn, but I don't think that was true.

Anyway, I've decided on a backless design so it no longer matters and the top can be worked in one piece either way. With that, I'll use a top-down construction. It's typically most intuitive and it's easier to customise as you go. This is also a piece I may pattern in the future, so I'm trying to prioritise a construction that would be fairly easy to replicate from written instructions.

The beginning.

I've started by chaining 55, casting enough stitches to cross the collar bone. Plus a turning chain. This piece will be worked with half double crochets.

It is quite a bit later and I'm considering giving this yarn away. It's largely unusable for most of what I would like to do and I've bent my hook twice trying to make it work. I'm only on the third row— I've also restarted twice.

I wouldn't recommend this yarn for making fine fabrics or clothing unless you're working with single crochets. I want to say it works like a crochet thread but even that seems not quite right; I've had an easier time working other stitches on crochet threads before.

That said, we've restarted with 64 stitches and single crochet. I'll see if the yarn I have will still be sufficient to complete this project.

I should mention, I've sized down and back up in hook since starting. Working half double crochets with a 3.25 mm isn't entirely out of the question, but for the top to be wearable it'd require me to also create a double-layered bust. Any thread I saved not working single crochet would have to go to this.

The single crochets are working beautifully. I'll likely double this in height before I start working increases.

Patons Grace. 3.25 mm.

Chain 65.
Sc 24 rows.

To be updated as progress is made.

This is a public note. It is not a pattern. This documentation of my process has been made public with little clarification in case there is anything to be learned.
