24/7 Cotton Washcloth

I've just finished my 24/7 cotton tote bag (24/7 cotton yarn from Lion Brand) and there's still some yarn remaining, so I figured I'd make a little washcloth with what's left.

I'm figuring it out as I go, but here's the plan so far:

Chain 50 (49 + 1 turning chain)

1. Work a row of single crochet into the back bumps.

2. Work single crochet in each stitch.

3. Work 2 sc, work moss stitch over the next 45 stitches, work 2 sc.

4. Repeat the last row 28 times.

5. Work a row of single crochet into each stitch, including the chain stitches.

6. Work a row of single crochet into each stitch.

Fasten off and weave in ends

My washcloth ended up being rectangular since I just wanted to use up my yarn and am unwilling to purchase another skein to make it square. I reckon you'd need an additional 12-14 rows of the moss stitch pattern to get a square.

Post-Completion Notes

I worked the first two and last two rows using a 4.5 mm hook and alternated between a 4.5 mm and a 5.0 mm for the body rows. The chains in moss stitch cause the work to pull tight, so I alternated with the 5.0 mm hook to balance out the tension. You can do this somewhat intuitively if you'd like by just working with one hook for a few rows and seeing what happens, and then switching to the other hook to balance it out. What I did was work about 10 rows with the 4.5 mm, and then worked with the 5.0 mm almost until the end. I then worked the last 4 rows with the 4.5 mm again, as I noticed the work was getting a little wide.

Moss Stitch

Beginning with either a chain stitch or a single crochet, alternate single crochets and chain stitches across the row. Ideally, you should end the row with the same stitch you began with.

Eg. single crochet, chain 1 skip 1, single crochet, chain 1 skip 1, ..., single crochet

Eg. chain 1 skip 1, single crochet, chain 1 skip 1, single crochet, ..., chain 1 skip 1

For the next row, make chains (and skip1) over the single crochets and make single crochets into the chain of the previous row. This means if your first row looked like the first example, your second row will be the second example and vice versa.

Continue repeating the two rows, putting single crochets into chain stitches and making chain stitches over single crochets.
